about

Chasin’ the Train return with a taster from their forthcoming second album, and the first new music since the April 2020 debut album ‘Dead Man’s Handle’. The digital-only single is available across all major streaming and download sites worldwide from today.

‘Izzy Lee’ tells the story of a creole voodoo practitioner in the Louisiana bayou. It takes the myths, legends and symbolism of that part of the world and weaves them into a swampy, grooving blues rock track, full of haunting harmonica, rough‘n’ready guitars, tribal drums and bass, alongside the band’s trademark powerful vocals. Although rooted firmly in the blues, the band have allowed other influences to bear on their song-writing, producing a unique sound that’s both classic and modern.

The band decided to release this ‘radio edit’ version of the song, with the full version appearing on their second album ‘Signals’, scheduled for release in mid-2024.

lyrics

Izzy Lee was a voodoo woman
With magic in her eyes
Heart was black as a bayou ‘gator
Her mouth was full of lies
Melt the heart of a granite statue
With a smile from her ruby lips
Tear a man from his wife and home
With the swaying of her hips

Izzy Lee you’re a bad, bad woman
But I can’t just let you be
Izzy Lee, you’re a bad, bad woman
And you made, a bad man out of me

A creole beauty with some gris-gris powder
A friend of Marie Laveau
She lived in a shack in Louisiana
Near the Gulf of Mexico
She would dance on the porch
In the heat of the night
Just swaying to that gumbo beat
She’d move her body like a Cajun kingsnake
To knock you off your feet

Izzy Lee you’re a bad, bad woman
But I can’t just let you be
Izzy Lee, you’re a bad, bad woman
And you made, a bad man out of me

A mambo priestess with eyes of fire
But a touch as cold as ice
When she call for you in the midnight hour
Then you have to pay the price
If she touch your heart with her voodoo magic
That’s when she takes control
She will make you blind, you will lose your mind
But you will also lose your soul

Izzy Lee you’re a bad, bad woman
But I can’t just let you be
Izzy Lee, you’re a bad, bad woman
And you made, a bad man out of me
